Channel steel is divided into ordinary channel steel and light channel steel. The specifications of hot-rolled ordinary channel steel are 5-40#. The specifications of hot-rolled flexible channel steel supplied by agreement between the supply and demand parties are 6.5-30#.
Channel steel is mainly used in building structure, vehicle manufacturing, other industrial structures and fixed cabinets, etc. Channel steel is often used with I-steel.
Channel steel can be divided into 4 kinds according to the shape: cold-formed equilateral channel steel, cold-formed unequal channel steel, cold-formed inner wound channel steel, cold-formed outer wound channel steel.
According to the theory of steel structure, it should be the channel steel wing plate that is stressed, that is, the channel steel should be standing, not lying.
In use, it is required to have better welding, riveting and comprehensive mechanical properties. The raw material billet for producing channel steel is carbon bonded steel or low alloy steel billet with carbon content not exceeding 0.25%. The finished channel steel is delivered by hot working, normalizing or hot rolling.
Its specifications are expressed in millimeters of waist height (h)* leg width (b)* waist thickness (d), such as 100*48*5.3, indicating that the waist height is 100 mm, the leg width is 48 mm, and the waist thickness is 5.3 mm, or 10# channel steel. Channel steel with the same waist height, if there are several different leg width and waist thickness, it is also necessary to add a b c to the right side of the model to distinguish, such as 25#a 25#b 25#c and so on.

The specifications of the channel steel are mainly expressed by the dimensions of height (h), leg width (b), waist thickness (d), etc., and the specifications of the domestic channel steel are from 5-40, that is, the corresponding height is 5-40cm.
At the same height, light channel steel has narrower legs, thinner waist and lighter weight than ordinary channel steel. No. 18-40 is a large channel steel, and No. 5-16 is a medium channel steel. The imported channel steel shall be marked with actual specifications, dimensions and relevant standards. The import and export orders of channel steel are generally based on the specifications required in use after determining the corresponding carbon bonded steel (or low alloy steel) steel number. The delivery length of channel steel is divided into two kinds: fixed length and double length, and the tolerance value is specified in the corresponding standard. The length selection range of domestic channel steel is divided into 5-12m, 5-19m and 6-19m according to different specifications. The length selection range of imported channel steel is generally 6-15m.
